Stories of Impact
Annette C. about daughter, Bridget
For nearly six months, Bridget Campbell and her family waited with uncertainty for funding for Bridget to take part in programs that could improve her life. From September 2024, Bridget and her family navigate the waiting period with the struggles of low energy and restless nights on occasions Bridget could not get outside due to weather.
Her mother, Annette witnessed firsthand the toll this took on Bridget. “She would spend most days in her room, listening to music or on her tablet when she couldn’t get outside,” Annette states. The lack of engagement and the absence of activities negatively affected Bridget both physically and mentally.
Through the wait, Bridget and her family persevered and the wait finally came to an end. Bridget was finally able to get the services she so badly needed and wanted through the RISE Scholarship. This vibrant young lady can now flourish more with the opportunities that are before her.
Bridget is now able to get out into the community several days a week to be with friends and participate in activities. Annette says that the RISE Scholarship has helped them “in a wonderful way.” And starting April 2nd, Bridget will begin participating in the day program, RISE Center for Growth. This is a long- awaited “blessing” for Bridget and her family, says Annette.
Those are words that carry a weight that speaks volumes about the life-changing impact that the RISE Scholarship has had on their family. With RISE developing the Scholarship in the face of a funding shortage working with the family to still provide, develop a plan, and working with the Johnson County Board of Services’ Targeted Case Management Team, The Campbell Family will get the funding they need.
